PUGLIA (APULIA)
A region suspended among nature, history and spirituality, to be visited all year, arriving at the international airports of Bari or Brindisi.
‘The heel of the Italian boot’ is a magnificent region. A strip of land stretching to the sea, from the sandy beaches of Torre dell’Orso and Porto Cesareo to the rocky coasts of Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca, meeting the calm and limpid Ionian sea and intense blue of the Adriatic.
The possibilities for scuba diving enthusiasts are infinite. From Gallipoli to Gargano, ‘the spur’ of Italy. Extending into the clear sheltered waters are the magnificent Tremiti islands.
Bari, Lecce and Brindisi, towns filled with places evoking the ancestral history of this land, from the prehistoric and Ancient Greek eras to the Renaissance and glorious Baroque ages.
Nature is everywhere to be enjoyed in the interior, with the Gargano National Park, the Murges, the Umbra Forest, the salt marshes and lakes or the Altamura dolinas with their remarkable landscapes outlining the hidden countryside of the region.
In the North, the Trulli of Alberobello, in the Itria valley, testify to the agricultural past of the region while in the South the castles that line the coast are evidence of past trading.
Puglia is also renowned for its gastronomy, sampled at the village fairs, Sagre, that are enjoyed in the summer season.
Those who love dancing will be happy to discover the Pizzica traditional folk dance with its frenetic rhythm, which is part of the musical Heritage of Puglia.
This region is a must to visit!
